Canyon and Lubbock Monterey Public Scrimmage

For you football fans who can't wait to see a game, do we have a treat for you.

Saturday evening at 6 p.m. in Kimbrough Stadium, Canyon and Lubbock Monterey will conduct a scrimmage. But Canyon coach Blake Bryant and Monterey coach James Morton (a former stud running back for the Buffies at WT) have decided to put a twist into the normal scrimmage.

You know how the NFL teams practice against each other before playing a preseason game - Dallas is in in Denver right now doin this - well, that's what Canyon and Monterey are going to try. So instead of running play after meaningless play against each other, they will conduct practice drills. Like Canyon quarterback and receivers will go against Monterey d-backs.

I love this concept. It takes the pressure off keeping a score in a scrimmage and coaches can focus in on individual technique.

Don't you agree?
