I Admit, I've Been Spoiled

I’ve only been in Amarillo for two weeks and I would be willing to bet I’ve seen two of the best football games that will be played this year. My first game experience was Sunray’s 42-41 win over Nazareth at Dick Bivins Stadium last Thursday. Once I got over the impressive surroundings at Bivins, I settled in and enjoyed a down to the wire win by the Bobcats.

The next day Stratford beat Childress 29-25 in another game that was close and came down to a fourth quarter mistake. Speaking of Bivins, what a gem of a stadium that is. I’ve covered games at Dragon Stadium in Southlake, Round Rock Stadium and Wildcat Stadium in Temple and I have to say Bivins is far and away the best high school stadium I’ve been to. The others are just as big, have a nice press box and all the things you would expect but the atmosphere at Bivins is second to none.

My spoiled first two weeks continued Thursday night. I witnessed Canyon’s Spencer Church and Hereford’s Parker Bridwell compete in a track meet with pads at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium. Church’s Eagles snagged the victory but I wouldn’t be surprised to see both teams make a deep run in the playoffs. Will my Randall vs. Plainview experience Friday night live up to my first few games? I sure hope so.
