My Picks: 5A Dreadful, 4A Not Bad

If you ever drive by a business called “Joiner’s Fortune Telling” keep on driving, because I’m not very good at predicting the future. In my picks this week I had Tascosa beating Lubbock Monterey 24-10. The Rebels ended up losing 21-14. Another genius pick of mine was Amarillo High beating Lubbock Coronado 42-28. We’ll just say I was off a little with Coronado downing the Sandies 36-28. I inherited Lance Lahnert’s 5A record of 1-0, but made us look like the Detroit Lions after week three, in a good year, downgrading the record to 1-2. When it comes to 5A ball I was pretty awful, but my picks were on the money in the 4A ranks.

I took Randall to beat Plainview 24-7. The Raiders won impressively 37-0 with the defense suffocating the Bulldogs with four interceptions and a blocked punt. My Pampa prediction had the Harvesters winning 42-10 over Lubbock Estacado, and they came through for me with a 35-4 win. My last pick of the week was Wolfforth Frenship beating Dumas 35-21. Frenship did better than I expected with a 56-14 win. So in the 5A ranks I may just have to play the new guy card, but 4A ball treated me pretty well Friday and I’m sitting at 6-0 so far this season.

Maybe next week I’ll wise up and stop predicting that every team will score 40 points or more.
