Not good enough for stats but good enough for WT

West Texas A&M punter Cort Johnson is averaging 44.8 yards a kick, the second best average in the Lone Star Conference behind Joe Kok of Northeastern State (45.94, second best in Division II). However, with only nine punts in three games, he's again under the NCAA minimum of 3.5 per game. Johnson would rank sixth nationally. Also, he said his average would rank 23rd in the NFL. Like it or not, Johnson is one weapon the Buffs hope they don't have to fire too often this season, even if it means he's not listed in the national stats. But retiring its starters early the past two games due to blowouts, WT is taking a hit in the stats. Quarterback Keith Null, despite sitting out more than three quarters, still has thrown for a D-II best 1,047 yards and is tied for the lead with nine scoring passes.
