Future stars didn't help Arizona State beat WT in '65

West Texas A&M has played a number of big football games in October. Saturday's game against Abilene Christian will add to the list. Oct. 2, 1965, WT was host to Arizona State and pinned a 22-14 loss on coach Frank Kush's Sun Devils. Two players who later became stars, one not in football, were on that ASU team. One was noseguard Curly Culp, who would go on to a nice pro career with the Kansas City Chiefs. The other was a linebacker who played just one season. His name is Reggie Jackson. Yep, the same Reggie Jackson who later would earn the nickname "Mr. October." WT finished 6-4 in 1965, the same record as Arizona State.
