WT, ACU can't look ahead or big game loses luster

Both West Texas A&M and Abilene Christian face teams that are capable of getting their attention if the Buffs and Wildcats are looking ahead.
WT travels to Blackwater Draw on Saturday to try to keep the Wagon Wheel it has held for three years when the Buffs play Eastern New Mexico. Not everything goes as planned in Blackwater Draw; WT blew two field goal tries in the final minutes to lose 21-20 in 2004, the last time the Buffs lost a regular season road game. The streak is up to 20 straight wins.
ACU is host to Angelo State, which is located only a little farther from Abilene than Blackwater Draw is from Canyon. The Rams have one of the best defenses in the conference, which could help slow the top scoring team (54 ppg) in Division II.
If WT and ACU can win, their showdown next weekend will match unbeaten teams ranked in D-II's top five.
