Sunray was very good

Sunray was very good in Thursday's high school opener against Nazareth while the Swifts probably have much work to do.

Stratford looked like a team capable of winning another Class 1A state title, but it's hard to tell how good Childress really was.

The class of the Panhandle area among small schools just might be Bushland. The Falcons play at Stratford Sept. 18 in what promises to be an outstanding matchup.

If you get a chance catch a West Texas game. This is a team with only 13 Varsity players. The team is much improved with a good offensive line. Obviously the problem lies in the secondary with the kids having to cover long routes. Friday night against Panhandle the Comanches stayed with Panhandle 13-16 at the half scoring on their opening posession.Panhandle got smart and started spreading them out in the second half. I think these guys could be a spoiler for either Sunray or Gruver in the fight for the remaining playoff spot (giving Canadian and Stratford the 1st two spots).
