Caprock signs name into school history

The Caprock Longhorns and third-year coach Seth Parr reached back to the school record books with their convincing 28-8 victory over Levelland last weekend.

The win pushed The Rock to 3-1 on the year. Last season, Caprock also started 3-1.

When was the last time Caprock put up back-to-back 3-1 starts to the season? Our records show its 1972 and 1973.

The Horns are developing a balanced run-pass attack behind star running back Jamar Johnson and quarterback Gerardo Ruiz.

Johnson has been nothing short of spectacular averaging 8.45 yards per carry and has 566 yards rushing, while catching 21 passes for 223 yards. He has scored 11 touchdowns rushing and one receiving.

Yep. He also tossed a TD pass.

Ruiz has thrown for 784 yards and six touchdowns, lighting up Levelland for 252 yards and three touchdowns.

At 3-1, regardless of the outcome of Thursday's Caprock-Midland Christian game, the Longhorns will at least share the most wins of any District 3-4A team entering league play on Oct. 9.
