Fun Week Ahead

This will probably be the most intriguing week to date for high school football around here, as there are plenty of juicy matchups in the various classes, and all discerning area fans should find something that they like.

The big theme here in town will be Amarillo vs. Odessa in terms of District 2-5A supremacy. Both Amarillo High and Tascosa will both know a lot more about how good they are at the end of Friday night against two schools who are consensus choices to finish in the top two spots in the district. The Sandies will host Odessa Permian (you know, Friday Night Lights) while the Rebels will head south to Odessa High in the biggest tests for both local schools so far this season.

But the best game around might be an intraclass matchup between a pair of state-ranked teams, Class 2A Bushland and Class 1A Stratford at Stratford. That should also be the biggest challenge to date for both teams. And those aren't the only smaller schools involved in interesting games, as defending state champion Muleshoe will play Crane in a matchup of 2A powers in a neutral site in Denver City.

Should be entertaining, regardless of who you support.
