It Should Be In October

There's a genuine buzz and excitement around town concerning the pending Amarillo High-Tascosa game, as well there should be for two crosstown rivals who are both unbeaten. I can't help but think about how heightened this anticipation would be if this game were taking place in, say, late October with a playoff berth really on the line.

September 11 is a date which is always going to live with infamy and mixed messages for as long as Americans go about their business on a daily basis. Don't get me wrong, I'm not making the case that the high schools (or anybody else) should take this date off in light of the eight-year old tragedy, but it does put the rest of the season a little bit more in perspective. Besides, football's meant to be played in cooler weather, and the colder it is, the bigger the game.

And right now just doesn't seem as if it's cool enough to hold up the weight of local football hype.
