A Defensive Struggle

Thursday night's Tascosa-Lubbock Coronado game didn't feature anywhere near the offensive fireworks of the last game played at Dick Bivins Stadium, Palo Duro's 55-42 victory over Caprock. There almost certainly won't be any 300-yard rushers in this game, much less two for the same team.

Coronado led 7-0 in an early surprise, as Tascosa struggled to put together any offense outside of the scrambling of quarterback Dalton Brooks. The Rebels need to seriously pick things up in order to hav a chanc in the second half.

The other big news in the press box was the numbers the Amarillo schools reported to the UIL for next February's realignment. Tascosa reported 2,140.5 students (where did the .5 come from?) while Amarillo High reported 2,089. Considering that the UIL 5A minimum was just below Amarillo High's current enrollment, a drop to 4A isn 't out of the question.

But for now, both schools remain in 5A, and there's still a lot of football to be played.
