Finish Line's Approaching

Hard to believe that there are only two more weeks left in the high school regular season and that the clocks will be set back an hour this weekend, although the cool weather and flu scares indicate that winter's close at hand. As such, local games take on heightened importance this week, as a lot of teams need to win to make next Friday's games mean anything.

Dumas and Palo Duro will get a head start on all that today at Dick Bivins Stadium in a game which will say a lot about the District 3-4A playoff picture. A win by Palo Duro would make things really interesting going into next week, and I wouldn't even want to hazard a guess as to what the magic formula to make the playoffs would be.

Fox Sports Southwest will have cameras on the sidelines for both that game and Friday night's Amarillo High-Midland Lee game at Bivins as part of the DQ Game of the Week. For the Sandies it's simple — win and they clinch the second of the four playoff spots from District 2-5A. They could even split their last two games and make the playoffs, but let's not get too deeply into that possibility just yet.

A lot of possibilities will be knocked out of the way after this week, but at least as many still figure to remain. So fasten your seatbelts, the ride's coming to an abrupt end.
