It's Been An Entertaining Week

I'll admit it's been a fun two evenings going to Dick Bivins Stadium, especially getting to see a lot of familiar names and faces and some beat writers from my adopted hometown of Midland. And even though it didn't make the locals here very happy to see Midland Christian and Midland Lee get out of town with close wins over Caprock and Tascosa respectively, at least everyone got treated to a pair of teriffic games.

That old cliche about both teams deserving to win applied to Midland Christian's 35-31 win over Caprock and Lee's 35-32 victory over Tascosa. But those two games were actually fairly different in terms of who the stars were.

MCS-Tascosa was heavily tilted toward the running backs, as Tascosa's Jamar Johnson ran for 160 yards and two scores in addition to 110 yards receiving and two touchdowns. You think the Dsitrict 3-4A coaching staffs who were at the game took notice? Midland Christian had two runners, Hunter Redman and Si Ratliff, both go over 100 yards.

The Lee-Tascosa game was a tale of two quarterbacks. Tascosa's Dalton Brooks was his usual self, running for 155 yards and two scores while throwing for 151 yards. Lee's Jace Edwards threw for 175 yards and two scores and ran for 116 yards and two more. But like Midland Christian the night before, Lee had more than one running threat, as Austin Jumper actually led Lee in rushing with 126 yards.

Amarillo and Midland won't cross paths next week, but look for some high intrigue when Amarillo High travels to Midland High in two weeks.
