Long Friday, But A Good One

I'm not going to complain about not getting enough football after witnessing a doubleheader at Dick Bivins Stadium on Friday night, even if I didn't get out of the pressbox until 11:45 p.m., thanks to the late start of the Midland High-Tascosa nightcap, which already had an 8 p.m. kickoff to begin with.

But that's about as rough as things got for me on Friday. If you pay any attention to the Crystal Ball feature where Globe-News staffers make their predictions for the coming week, you'll know it was an abysmal week for us collectively. My expertise (or lack of it) really took a beating in last week's high school games, all five of which I picked incorrectly.

One Friday night later, though, I turned it around like Lance Lahnert's favorite team, the Denver Broncos. I didn't miss a single game in the high school picks, the only staffer who can make that claim. What separated me from the pack was soloing on the Perryton-Borger game, where I picked Borger to win.

I feel good about my college and pro picks for this weekend as well. I feel like I'm going to move up in our pick-it line. If I have another week like this one, all I can say is bring on the doubleheaders.
