Sandies In Control So Far

At halftime in a key District 2-5A game at Grande Communications Stadium, Amarillo High leads Midland High 17-3. The Sandies have done it with defense and special teams, as they've held Midland High's powerful offense to 109 total yards in the first half. Amarillo High took the lead for good when Dalton Koller returned a kickoff 100 yards for a score to make it 7-3. It was Koller's second kickoff return for a touchdown this season.

But it's only one half. Last season at Dick Bivins Stadium, Amarillo High had a 14-point lead on the Bulldogs midway through the fourth quarter, and Midland High forced overtime before eventually winning 53-49 in the second overtime.

Don't expect that kind of shootout based on the first half numbers, but it's going to be very interesting nonetheless.
