Awards Time

For a lot of people involved in some form with the high school football season, now is the time to contemplate and decide on who should be rewarded for top performances this season. In some cases, choices are pretty clear-cut, but other times things are more subjective.

I'd hope that most other prep football writers in the state would agree with me when I say that we can only give educated guesses as to who should be on an all-state or even all-district team, since nobody sees everybody play every game outside of the specific teams they cover. We can only go with who makes the best impression on us, which is why the submissions I'm making for all-state consideration amount to little more than my two cents.

Same goes for everybody else who makes these picks. Picking defense and offensive linemen is especially tough since we don't keep those kinds of stats during the game, and I'm awaiting some phone calls from area coaches to help me confirm some things before I e-mail some submissions.

Speaking of postseason honors, how could Tim (Yeah, that's my real hair) Lincecum have won the NL Cy Young Award by winning 15 games for a third place team? Were those voters smoking the same stuff Timmy was caught with when he got pulled over? It didn't hurt Lincecum that the two Cardinals pitchers likely split first place votes.

But take it for what it's worth. That's just my opinion.
