Different View At Jones

Making a quick stop at Jones AT&T Stadium before covering this evening's playoff game between Canyon and Big Spring at Lowrey Field, it brings back memories of the last time I was in Jones for a high school playoff game.

That was in 2006, when working for the Midland Reporter-Telegram, I covered the area round game between Midland High and Amarillo High at Jones in AHS coach Brad Thiessen's first season. The Sandies pulled off a victory, but looking at the game today between Borger and Graham, what I now recall most about the AHS-Midland game was just how far away the players looked from the press box _ and they don't look any closer today.

Numbers aren't necessarily that easy to make out either, although if you know names it helps. And there's no bigger name than Graham quarterback Case McCoy, the younger brother of Texas quarterback Colt McCoy. Graham took a 28-7 halftime lead as McCoy completed 10-of-17 passes for 162 yards and four touchdowns.

Regardless of what happens in the second half, those in the Panhandle should see the younger McCoy in action again some time at Jones; he's made a verbal commitment to play for Texas.
