Only The Best Are Playing

Heading into a high school football season, very few teams can honestly say that they have realistic championship aspirations. What most teams would agree upon, though, is that if they're still playing after Thanksgiving, they've had a successful season.

By that measure, eight Panhandle teams have had very successful seasons. For some, namely Bushland, Canadian, Stratford and Sunray, it's not surprising that they're still having to think about getting ready for a game after the last piece of pumpkin pie has been consumed. All of them have been ranked for most, if not all of the season, so being here was expected.

For River Road, whatever happens from here on out is gravy, and not just what you pour on your mashed potatoes and stuffing. A win over undefeated Brady on Friday in Odessa's historic Ratliff Stadium would mark the first time in school history the Wildcats have won three playoff games in a season.

So go ahead and enjoy your Thanksgiving. Some people still have work to do.
